Tour Details

Mount Meru, located in the heart of Arusha National Park in Tanzania, is an exceptional destination for climbing enthusiasts. This prominent peak is highly recommended as a “warm-up” trek before attempting the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, as it offers excellent elevation acclimatization. However, the trek to Mount Meru itself provides a rewarding experience, featuring breathtaking views and diverse vegetation. Additionally, trekking Mount Meru presents a less crowded alternative compared to the Mount Kilimanjaro routes.

During your trek, you may encounter a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, mandrills, colobus monkeys, and numerous bird species. This allows for a unique walking safari experience, enhancing your adventure on the mountain. The traverse along the Mount Meru ridge is particularly spectacular, offering panoramic 360-degree views from the summit. From Mount Meru’s peak, you can also catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro, making for an exhilarating experience.

Unlike Mount Kilimanjaro, which offers multiple routes to its summit, Mount Meru has only one official trail—the ‘Momella Route.’ This ascent is an ideal preparation for conquering Kilimanjaro, allowing climbers to acclimatize to altitudes of approximately 15,000 feet. It also provides an opportunity to test and adjust gear during the rest day between Kilimanjaro climbs. Crucially, practicing nighttime ascents is advisable, as climbing in the dark and cold conditions can be challenging.

For those seeking an unforgettable climbing adventure and effective altitude acclimatization, Mount Meru is a premier choice within Tanzania’s stunning landscapes.
