Tour Details

Mount Meru, located in the heart of Arusha National Park in Tanzania, is renowned for its climbing opportunities. It is highly recommended to trek Mount Meru as a preparatory step before attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, as it provides an excellent opportunity for altitude acclimatization. However, the trek itself offers a rewarding experience with its stunning vistas and diverse vegetation. Additionally, Mount Meru provides a chance to observe wildlife during the trek, and its trails are less congested compared to those of Mount Kilimanjaro.

During the trek, you may encounter a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, mandrills, colobus monkeys, and numerous bird species. This allows for a unique walking safari experience. The ridge walk on Mount Meru is a spectacular climb, offering panoramic 360-degree views from the summit. From the peak, you can also catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro, adding to the excitement of the adventure.

Unlike Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru has only one official route to the summit—the ‘Momella Route.’ Climbing Mount Meru is an ideal preparation for ascending Kilimanjaro. It helps in acclimating to the altitude (approximately 15,000 feet) and allows you to test and adjust your equipment during the rest day between climbing Kilimanjaro. Importantly, practicing nighttime ascents is crucial, as climbing in the dark and cold can be challenging.
