Tour Details

Tarangire National Park is almost 3000 sq km in size and is probably best known for its huge numbers of elephants and baobab trees. The name of the park comes from the Tarangire River which crosses through the park.

Tarangire is especially spectacular during the dry season (June – November) as wildlife concentrations rival that of the Serengeti (since enormous populations of elephants and other animals are drawn to the Tarangire River as their only source of water). With its varied habitats and permanent water in the Tarangire River, the park is home to over 2000 elephants and 500 bird species.

Tarangire Day Trip Itinerary

We will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, and after a scenic drive—approximately 2 hours from Arusha or 4 hours from Moshi—you will arrive at the stunning Tarangire National Park.

Known for having the highest concentration of elephants in Northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park offers year-round opportunities to witness these magnificent creatures, with herds sometimes numbering up to 300.

The Tarangire River, which remains a vital water source throughout the year, becomes the lifeblood of the park during the dry season (July to October). During this period, animals from surrounding regions congregate at the river, creating a spectacular display of wildlife. As you explore, you’ll encounter majestic lions, towering giraffes, powerful buffaloes, and large herds of wildebeest and zebras. The park is also home to various species of antelopes and gazelles, and if you’re fortunate, you might even spot a python.

For bird enthusiasts, Tarangire is a paradise, especially during the dry season, with over 550 species recorded, including the impressive Masai Ostrich—the world’s largest bird. Around midday, you’ll pause at a scenic picnic spot to enjoy your lunch before continuing your wildlife adventure. As the day draws to a close, you will be driven back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, carrying with you the memories of an unforgettable safari experience.
